A: Whose jacked is this? Amy or John?

B: I think it’s hers. She should have left it yesterday when she came over.

Notice how to ask who things belong to with whose. Notice how to say who things belong to with a possessive pronoun (hers) in this example but not with a possessive adjective (her).

The correct answer is Choice D.

A: Hey Alice! I didn’t join the class yesterday. May I take your notes?

B: Sure. They are in my bag, right in front of you. You can take them whenever you want.

Notice that in the first and second blank we used possessive adjectives since they follow the noun they address (your notes/ my bag), and object pronoun in the third one since it is positioned in the object position (them). 

The correct answer is Choice E.

A: What do you do with your old course books?

B: Sometimes I give them to a friend of mine, but mostly I sell them to students who register to that course or just keep them. You know, my sister also wants to study in my department, so she may need them in the future.

In conversation, 20% of the uses of mine are in the expression friend(s) of mine. Thus, we need to fill in the first blank with mine. In the second and third blanks we need to use possessive adjectives since they follow the noun they address (my sister, my department). 

The correct answer is Choice E.

A: I cannot find my passport. Do you know where it is?

B: Mine is with me, but I’m not sure were yours is. Have you looked at the drawer next to the window?

In the first blank we need to use possessive adjective since it follows the noun it addresses (my passport). In the second and third blanks possessive pronouns are used because they used instead of the nouns rather than with the nouns they address. For the last one, notice that there is "to" that follows the blank; thus, we need to place "next" in the last blank.    

The correct answer is Choice C.

A: Which car is yours?

B: The red one in front of the pharmacy.

In the first blank we need to use possessive pronoun since we need to comprise both the adjective “your” and the noun “car”. In the second blank we need to use “one” since it refers to “the car” which is singular. “In front of” is an expression we need to use with in; thus, the last blank needs to be completed with in. The correct answer is Choice B.

Thus, in front of pants we need to place green cotton, and in front of jeans nice white. Since pants are plural we need to fill the third blank with ones. The correct answer is Choice A.

Since A is asking for permission to use B’s cell phone we need to place “if I use” instead of “using”. In the second blank we need the possessive pronoun of I; thus, we need to use “mine”. In the last blank we need to answer no to agree to requests with mind. Thus, we need to complete it with “No, not at all.” rather than with “Sure.” The correct answer is Choice A.

A is asking B to do something, so we need to place “helping” in the first blank. We need to answer “no” to agree to requests with mind, and “yes” to agree to requests with “can”; thus, the second blank needs to be completed with “No problem.” And the last one with “Sure”.  The correct answer is Choice C.

On a typical Saturday, first, I take a shower after I get out of bed. Then, I prepare my breakfast and read the news while I’m having my breakfast. As soon as I wash the dishes, I walk my dog for about an hour and go back home. The correct answer is Choice B.

Use a possessive adjective before a noun.

Use possessive pronouns for the possessive adjective and the noun in a phrase or sentence.

use "whose" to ask about possessions and use "one/ones" as pronoun for repeated nouns in a conversation.

Do you mind.... ve would you mind....? ile başlayan sorularda, eğer cevabımız olumlu ise cevaba "No" ile başlanır. bu sayede bizim için sorun olmadığı, istenen şeyin yapılabileceği söylenmiş olur.
