Web 1.0 is the term used to refer to the first stage of development on the World Wide Web that was characterized by simple static websites. Web 1.0 covers one-way websites that enable internet users to obtain information only. At this first stage (1990-2000), internet users were limited to obtaining content only on the internet. In this stage, users visit websites and receive the information they want to. In other words, there is no possibility to contribute to the content or to create content. This Web 1.0 stage is called “read only web” (Berners-Lee, 2000).

Web 2.0 has emerged as a technology where content is dynamically shared on social networks, in a read and write structure and bringing people together.

Web 2.0 is characterized by the change from static web pages to dynamic or user-generated content and the growth of social media.

The major trends that shaped Web 2.0 include content sharing, creativity, segmentation, social components, peer to peer sharing of files, easier communication, networking on various social marketing sites, video sharing, and blogging. 

Examples of Web 2.0 applications are Youtube, Wiki, Flickr, Facebook and others.

The concept of Web 3.0 is associated with the idea of the semantic Web.

Semantic web, artificial intelligence, connectivity, engagement, customization, mobile, on-demand collaboration and ubiquity are the main features of Web 3.0.

Big data is the collection of a wealth of data from and about everything internal and external to the company and its interpretation to help make the business run more efficiently and improve customer service. This data facilitates the ability to track customers and their communications across every channel, which can help measure and manage all the experiences a customer has with a business.
