AKADEMİK İNGİLİZCE II - Deneme Sınavı - 31

A seçeneğinde verilen dresser (şifonyer) sözcüğü dışında hepsi mutfağa ait nesnelerdir: ocak-fırın- bulaşık makinesi-mikrodalga.

Sözcükler doğru sıralandığında oturma odamda iki küçük, renkli şark halısı var olmalıdır. E seçeneği doğru bir cümle olmasına rağmen soru işareti verilmemiş olduğu için soru cümlesi beklenmemektedir. A, C ve D seçeneklerinde sıfatların sırası yanlıştır. İsim önünde birden fazla sıfat kullanıldığında belirli bir sıralamayı takip etmek gerekmektedir: fikir/düşünce-boyut-renk-şekil-köken-materyal.

Birisinin bir şey yapmasını rica edeceğimiz zaman would you mind…? yapısını kullanmak gerekmektedir. Could I/Can I… ve do you mind yapıları izin almak için kullanılan yapılardandır.

Bir şey için izin almak istediğimizde do you mind/can I/could I gibi yapılar kullanırız. Could you/can you/would you mind gibi yapıları birisinden ricada bulunmak için kullanırız.

Mind sözcüğünü içeren ricalara cevap verirken no sözcüğünü kullanmamız gerektiğinden C seçeneğinde verilen cevap doğrudur. Diğer seçeneklerde verilen cevaplar can/could ile oluşturulan ricalara cevap olarak kullanılmaktadır.

Diyaloğu doğru tamamlayan ifadeler E seçeneğinde verilmiştir. Diyalog doğru tamamlandığında şu anlama gelmektedir: A: Daha sessiz konuşabilir misiniz? İşime odaklanamıyorum. B: Tabii, sorun değil. A:Teşekkürler. Bir ricada daha bulunabilir miyim? Pencereyi kapatabilir misiniz? B: Elbette.

Tim: My mask is here in the drawer, where is yours?

Linda: It's is on  my face, are you kidding?

Sam: Where can I put these dishes?

Tom: You can put them in the cabinets, they're all empty.

Soruya anlamca uyan  stove ve diswasher ifadeleri tekil olduğundan ve boşluktan sonra gelen "they" ifadesi çoğul bir isme göndermede bulunduğu için doğru cevap C'dir.

Usual adjective order: opinion, size, color, shape, nationality, material olduğuna göre doğru cevap D'dir.

"Would you mind" ifadesinden sonra fiil+ing yapısı kullanıldığı için doğru cevap B'dir.

İzin istemek için kullanılan "do you mind" ifadesinden sonra if+I+ fiilin1. hali kullanıldığı için doğru cevap E'dir.

This is my room and that is your room, but this is our home brother!

I found mine, but I don't know where Linda's passport is. Do you know where hers is?

The cushions are on the sofa.

Mother: Where are you Susan?

Susan: I'm in the bathroom mom, I'm having shower!

I'm so sleepy, I just want to sleep and get some rest, where's the bedroom?

A: Whose jacked is this? Amy or John?

B: I think it’s hers. She should have left it yesterday when she came over.

Notice how to ask who things belong to with whose. Notice how to say who things belong to with a possessive pronoun (hers) in this example but not with a possessive adjective (her).

The correct answer is Choice D.

A: Hey Alice! I didn’t join the class yesterday. May I take your notes?

B: Sure. They are in my bag, right in front of you. You can take them whenever you want.

Notice that in the first and second blank we used possessive adjectives since they follow the noun they address (your notes/ my bag), and object pronoun in the third one since it is positioned in the object position (them). 

The correct answer is Choice E.

A: What do you do with your old course books?

B: Sometimes I give them to a friend of mine, but mostly I sell them to students who register to that course or just keep them. You know, my sister also wants to study in my department, so she may need them in the future.

In conversation, 20% of the uses of mine are in the expression friend(s) of mine. Thus, we need to fill in the first blank with mine. In the second and third blanks we need to use possessive adjectives since they follow the noun they address (my sister, my department). 

The correct answer is Choice E.

A: I cannot find my passport. Do you know where it is?

B: Mine is with me, but I’m not sure were yours is. Have you looked at the drawer next to the window?

In the first blank we need to use possessive adjective since it follows the noun it addresses (my passport). In the second and third blanks possessive pronouns are used because they used instead of the nouns rather than with the nouns they address. For the last one, notice that there is "to" that follows the blank; thus, we need to place "next" in the last blank.    

The correct answer is Choice C.
